Fernando Techy, M.D. is a highly-specialized, fellowship-trained spine surgeon. His unique education includes two complete Orthopedic Surgery residencies, one at the Santa Casa of Sao Paulo, Brazil and one at the University of Illinois in Chicago, and a combined orthopedics and neurological surgery fellowship in spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, OH. After his extensive training was completed, Dr. Techy was invited back to the University of Illinois in Chicago to work as an attending Professor of Orthopedics, where he performed very complex and demanding spinal surgery in the academic setting until deciding to join The Spine Institute at Rocky Mountain Associates (RMA) and the Orthopedic Stem Cell Institute, here in Colorado. After great community acceptance and rapid practice growth, Dr. Techy opened his own clinic — The ClinTech Center for Spine Health. The ClinTech Center is a medical practice that encompasses all aspects of spine treatments, ranging from conservative to surgical.

Dr. Techy’s primary goal is to provide excellent patient care, trying to achieve the best possible result for every case. In his mind, every patient is unique and nothing but his best will be offered. Treatments range from simply understanding your condition, to lifestyle changes, to injections and noninvasive treatments, and finally to indicating surgery when appropriate.

Every case is carefully and individually analyzed. Dr. Techy is passionate about teaching and performing research to help the advancement of spinal surgery. He is the author of many articles published in peer reviewed journals as well as multiple book chapters on spinal surgery. He has reviewed and continues to review multiple spine surgery books for the most important medical publishers and also serves as spine surgery reviewer and member of the editorial board for the Spine Journal, The AO Global Spine Journal, and for the Medical Science Monitor Journal.  Dr. Techy is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), of the North American Spine Society (NASS), of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), and of The AO Spine North America. He is also an active member of the committees for the above societies.

Dr. Techy enjoys teaching and training orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery residents and fellows as well as orthopedic colleagues from the U.S. and abroad. Currently, Dr. Techy is faculty for The AO Spine North America, for the Depuy-Synthes Spine Surgery Institute, and for the Cleveland Clinic Spine Review. Dr. Techy has also helped design and perfect important implants that are used in today’s most modern spinal surgeries.

Fernando Techy still participates, in conjunction with the FDA, at the AAOS Exhibits Committee, regulating how spine surgery device companies market themselves to orthopedic surgery colleagues. Dr. Techy is currently the principal investigator in four IDE trials for the FDA and many other clinical and bone science studies. He is very interested in research with biological solutions for spine and orthopedic conditions, specifically stem cells and growth factors.

Outside of Medicine, Fernando enjoys spending time with his wife, his son Daniel, and daughter Lulu. He enjoys watching sports live and on TV, riding his road or mountain bike, skiing, running, and playing tennis.

Fernando Techy speaks English, Spanish, French and Portuguese and plays a little guitar.
